One part of Fiber Art involves the creation of ‘minitextiles’, minature pieces measuring 20x20x20cm. Giovanna Bolognini, Marisa Bronzini, Vito Capone, Shihoko Fukumoto, Ursula Gerber-Senger, Lee Kyung Hee, Naomi Kobayashi, Marie-Rose Lortet, Valeria Scuteri, Naoko Serino, Barbara Shawcroft and Maria Luisa Sponga are just some of the artists who have worked in a genre which was initially launched by the Miniartextil Show in Como (first held in 1991 and now in its sixteenth year).

The Venice exhibition presents 54 minitextiles from the collection belonging to the creators of Miniartextil (Nazzarena Bortolaso and Mimmo Totano of ‘Arte&Arte’) and four large-scale installations by Attiliana Zanetti Argentieri, Teodolinda Caorlin, Johan Peter Hol and Mauro Molinari.

This extraordinary collection documents the development of textile art, which – in the words of Luciano Caramel – “has been transformed from a niche sector into an integral part of the contemporary arts”. In the works on show, fibres of all kinds are both protagonist and means of expression: from cotton to linen, silk to copper, wood to glass, gold to plastic, stone to paper, iron to light.
