The Journey of a 13th-Century Venetian Merchant
A series of lectures exploring different aspects of the exhibition The Worlds of Marco Polo. The Journey of a 13th-Century Venetian Merchant, on view at the Doge’s Palace until 29 September 2024.
The programme will examine a range of themes inspired by the exhibition, from the embroidered panel by Zoran Mušič, selected as the exhibition’s key image, to coinage in Marco Polo’s time, Tartar cloths and Italian silks, and the art of glassmaking between Venice and the East. The series will conclude with a lecture by Dr Chiara Squarcina, Scientific Director of Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia and curator of the exhibition.
