Hotel Metropole Collection
From June 7th to September 14th, 2014
Palazzo Mocenigo, Venice
The passion for antiques and collecting of the Beggiato family, owners of the Hotel Metropole in Venice, and the precious association with the Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo represent the starting point for a fascinating exhibition of fans from the Hotel Metropole’s private collection to take place in the rooms of Palazzo Mocenigo from 7th June to 14th September, 2014.
The fans exhibited, from various centuries and fashions, have been carefully chosen from the collection displayed on an entire dedicated floor in the Hotel Metropole and in the rooms themselves. A fascinating display in the prestigious venue of Palazzo Mocenigo which welcomes these objects with distant origins and shows them off to best advantage in this exhibition.
“My interest in collecting dates back to the 1960s when by pure chance I went toSotheby’s in London for an auction of Bordeaux wines. On that “Out of the Catalogue”occasion, I managed to acquire a selection of unusual corkscrews.Since then, both I and my wife Elisabeth have cultivated this great passion with dedication. We have displayed the antique objects collected over the years in the spacesand a dedicated gallery in our Hotel Metropole in Venice, an extraordinary”Wunderkammer” open to our guests and curious visitors. The largest collections areof 19th century visiting card cases, Belle Époque evening pouch bags, unusual corkscrews, nutcrackers and crucifixes. The remarkable originality of the fans boasts a floor of its own with more than 200items. Hand painted, lace, silk, tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl… but also eclectic withostrich feathers, this is without doubt our most impressive collection” – Pierluigi Beggiato.
